Met with SFYP - so lets Get September ready

5.5.26 – A course for our transition to college teens

I recently had a great chat with the team over at Services for Young People (SfYP), and they wanted me to pass on some fantastic news for anyone with a teenager finishing Year 11 this summer.

We all know that the jump from GCSEs to whatever comes next can feel huge. Whether they are heading off to sixth form, starting college, or honestly just aren't sure what their plans look like yet, SfYP is running some brilliant, completely free 'Get September Ready' sessions to help them navigate the transition.

What I love about these sessions is how informal and supportive they are. They are run by qualified SfYP Advisers who give individualized support to help build up that all-important confidence and resilience before the new term kicks off.

It’s a safe, welcoming space that is particularly beneficial for young people who might need a little extra reassurance—including those who have been out of education, are home-educated, or have special educational needs and disabilities (including social, emotional, and mental health needs).

What do they cover?

It's all the practical, day-to-day stuff that can cause those pre-term nerves. The advisers will be chatting through:

  • Mapping out travel and daily routines

  • How to manage new timetables

  • Handy study skills for the next level

  • Delivering tailored careers advice and guidance

  • Where and how to get further support when they need it

When and where?

The sessions are happening across Hertfordshire, but here are the local dates and times to get in your diary:

  • Dacorum: Tuesday 7th July & Wednesday 15th July (11am–1pm) 📍 Hemel Hempstead Young People's Centre, XC Centre, Jarman Park, HP2 4JS

  • St Albans: Tuesday 7th July & Wednesday 15th July (11am–1pm) 📍 Harpenden Young People's Centre, 27 High Street, Harpenden, AL5 2RU
